I can't believe 16 weeks of training has come to an end and our Half Marathon is in less than 12 hours!!
I have been M.I.A. This week from the blog and from my FB page. It's been a busy week at work, with kids sports and the charger to our laptop is broke. I have really missed all of it. I'm going to bed in 30 minutes so I wanted to post real quick to thank everyone for their support and encouragement! I have the best family, friends and of course my wonderful husband and kids!!
I will surely be recapping tomorrow evening! The forecast does not look great for tomorrow, it will surely rain. I'm just going to enjoy the time with the Sole 2 Soul sisters and race with my legs, head and heart.
I have a lot of others #sweatpink and #girlsgonesporty sisters racing tomorrow too! Good luck to everyone tomorrow! <3

Selling some shoes....
Ok so we have all done it, gone to buy running shoes, bring them home and run a couple of runs only to find out they aren't for you. Well meet my "not for me's".
They are made for triathlete's (I'm not one) and really have great features for that activity. Great loops that make it easy to grab and put on in a hurry. Holes/airflow all in the shoe, the shoe laces have webbing in them it ensures they stay tied.
I really do like these shoes it's just they don't work for me or some reason. So I thought maybe I could pass them along to someone who could love them. I have worn them for probably 30 miles of running. So there is a lot of running left in them.
I paid $109.99 for them and would really love to get $70.00 plus shipping (if necessary). So if anyone is interested please let me know.
K Swiss Blade Light Runs
Size 9 1/2 ladies
Charcoal and Pink
Slight wear on sole

last long run....
I'm sitting here watching the Katy Perry movie with my daughter and her friends, we are having a birthday sleepover. I'm trying to figure out everything I need to do tonight before I go to bed. It's my last morning waking up to go for a group long run....so sad! You know what that means..........
That's right we are 1 week out from our race!!!! Myself and about 20 other woman have been training for this race, it's been 15 weeks and we all are still here and doing awesome. I'm ready for the race to get here. I am ready to cross the finish line and being a "half marathon mom". I also hate to see all of this come to an end. It's kinda bitter sweet.
I love running with our group. I started with them for our Couch to 5K training. And then we joined up again for this half training. I know I will still run with them, but I will miss the planned weekend runs.
I'm not going to worry about not having a goal after I finish this. I planned it so I wouldn't be without a goal. My next Half is November 11, 2012. The Pensacola Half Marathon. I was lucky enough to be given 5 free entries, so it was a no brainer that I was going to run this race. After that I will be running March 3, 2013 at the Seaside Half Marathon in Santa Rosa, FL.
In between those half's are a couple 10K's, a Marathon relay team in January. So I am all covered for GOALS!! Woohoo!
Besides keeping up with my running, I am going to re-invent my diet. I want to be fit and I have to get my eating in line with that goal!
So in a week, I'm going to run this race, then I am going to celebrate and enjoy that excitement. I have to work the next morning (I wanted to have a spa day, but I have to be at work), so they will just have to listen to me all day rambling about my race, I will probably wear my medal too! Then I am going to rest for that week and sleep in the next weekend. Then I will get back to running and staying in shape for November!
Do I have any advice for anyone wanting to do this? Of course I do....
#1. If you want to do it, or if a friend is dragging you along, believe in your self that you can do it. Really, you got this. All it takes is faith in yourself.
#2. When your head tells you to stop, or that you can't do it anymore, keep running. When your body tells you that you can't or to stop running you have to know if it's telling or yelling. If you are injured and it's YELLING at you then STOP and go find out what's wrong. Don't waste weeks trying to fix it on your own. Just get it looked at.
#3. Have supportive family & friends, great shoes and eat well. Get plenty of rest and for Pete's sake STRETCH!!
#4. As soon as you think about it and commit, register for the race. That will help keep you motivated and make sure to tell everyone you know/meet what you are doing. They will help keep you accountable.
That's all I have!
Thank you & Congratulations to all the ladies that I am so privileged to run with. I wouldn't have done this without you! You all mean the world to me!!

#2. Larabar's ~ current giveaway going on, check it out here. I never thought in a million years I would eat let alone like something with dates in it. And these bars are all whole food items and at the most, they have 9 ingredients. Nothing is fake here people! Yummo!
#3. Chobani ~ I just love this stuff! I have a drawer full at all times and I have a case being delivered to me next week, I won it!! Holla!!
#4. Cheribundi ~ you can read my review. There are so many great benefits to Cherry Juice, it's a great go to drink for me with my running and well it's Cherry, how perfect!
#5. Simply Bar ~ again a review is coming soon. They asked me to review their product. At first, when I tried it, I did not like the first bite. But then I remembered what they were made for, and once I let go of any thoughts that it needed to be choclatey and maybe overwhelming with flavor (to hide other tastes), I started tasting what was there. and it was a really clean pleasant bar. Perfect for celiacs, someone with Crohn's etc. It does contain soy crisps (I have band soy in my life, if I can help it, I do not choose soy, but I don't get crazy over it).

what are your thoughts on this Nike Ad??
Today is another post from the
SEPTEMBER HEALTHY LIVING / FITNESS BLOGGER WRITING CHALLENGE
Day 18 Does Nike’s ‘Greatness’ ad exploit fat people?
First I wanted to make sure I was familiar with the definition of exploit:
ex·ploit ( k sploit , k-sploit )
n.
An act or deed, especially a brilliant or heroic one. See Synonyms at feat1.
tr.v. (
k-sploit , k sploit ) ex·ploit·ed, ex·ploit·ing, ex·ploits
1. To employ to the greatest possible advantage: exploit one's talents.
2. To make use of selfishly or unethically: a country that exploited peasant labor. See Synonyms at manipulate.
3. To advertise; promote.
So watch the Ad real quick and let me know what you think....
|
1. I think it exploit's Nathan in that Nike is trying to employ to the greatest possible advantage Nathan's efforts to get fit. In the article that is attached to the Youtube video a Dr. that is editor-in-chief for of the Childhood Obesity Journal states:
“He looks miserably uncomfortable, and as if he’s about to topple over. There is no hint of greatness in it — other than, perhaps, his commitment to do it. But maybe he is a great mathematician — or orator — or pianist…” he wrote in an email.
“So, I would have preferred they showed his pursuit of greatness in a way that was not so obviously far from great, so obviously impeded by his weight and so blatantly uncomfortable!”
REALLY!!! Has this man thought about what he was saying. When I (a non-obese, fairly active female) started running I looked as miserable and as uncomfortable as Nathan does, shoot, sometimes I still do! His statement that there is no greatness in it, other than perhaps his commitment to do it, well, in my opinion that may be all the greatness that boy needs. And I will tell you as a resident of one of the top Obese states and a mother to 4 kids (who are not obese), I would rather them look awkward and miserable trying to achieve fitness, than look comfortable and happy sitting on their butts getting more obese by the day!! And the comment about Math just makes me laugh. Obviously Nathan's grades and academics aren't the topic here. He apparently is very smart, what he does need to do is work towards lowering his weight and upping his activities!
2. I do not think Nike used Nathan selfishly or unethically. They were obviously looking for a very specific person when casting, and they found that in Nathan. That is no difference then casting for the Biggest Loser or any other TV show.
3. To advertise and promote. I believe Nike is doing just that. I hear so many over weight people say, if I could only lose weight, then I could take up running. When I lose weight then it will be easier to work out..... REALLY?? It never gets any easier than right now. Get some shoes, some shorts and get out there. One of my favorite quotes is it never gets easier, you just get better!
So yes, I think their ad exploits fat people. In a good way! If over weight Nathan can get out there and jog, anyone can! Quit making excuses, quit planning for it down the road, start it today! I think maybe we should see more of this. More REALISTIC people in ads instead of the models who workout with trainers and have their food made especially for them, are they really the motivation our over weight society needs? Isn't Nathan better suited for us? Do we relate more to him or to Mr./Mrs. Perfection?
I agree with the comments in the article from Puhl and the Youtube fan THELORDVALLON! I applaud Nike for doing this ad in a respectful manner and by doing it showing that all it takes is a choice to be greater. You don't start out greater, you work to greater!!
Hopefully this can be someones motivation!
QOTD: What are your thoughts on the ad??

back to chasing my goals...
I took last week off from blogging life and chasing my goals. I just had so much going on and honestly I wasn't sure that the weekly chase was back on or not. If you have been following my blog, you have seen my Monday posts about chasing my goals. Melissa over at Live, Love & Run started the Weekly Chase about 2 1/2 months ago. I have participated since the first week. Two weeks ago, she was unsure if she was going to continue the Chase, I am glad to see that she is. It has been very helpful to me.

Weekly Chase ~ Goals for the Week
1. Get my eating in check ~ I have realized and known for some time that my eating sucks and needs to be corrected. I have to start doing what I know needs to be done. I am 2 weeks out from my first half marathon and need to properly full my body. All I really give it is junk, so junk is going to be what I get out of it. It's my own fault.
I have been reading the Whole 9 and Whole 30's blog for a while now. I plan to start the Whole 30 on October 1st. Its the day after my Half, so its a fresh start. In the mean time, I am going to adopt some of my meals to be Whole 30 compliant, get a jump start. I am thinking about a Whole 30 challenge on my blog, so check back later.
2. Get all of my runs in ~ This is so important. I have been missing a few weekly runs due to weather, being tired or just not waking up to my alarm. If I can't do it in the morning, I will do it in the evening, or even hit a treadmill if need be.
3. Celebrate Collin's Birthday tonight and get ready for Sydnee's we have 3 birthdays from Sept 15th - Oct 19th! I can't neglect celebrating them. We are doing Collin's present and b-day dinner tonight. He was at his dad's house for his b-day and had his celebration there. So it will be a low key family dinner. Friday night Sydnee is having a sleep over for her birthday celebration. I think they will both love their presents!!
Well, that's it for me this week! I am glad to be back at chasing my goals!!
QOTD: What are some of your goals for the week?
Don't forget to check out my Larabar review and giveaway

Larabar's ~ a new love of mine!
So I know I promised a giveaway for last week and then my crazy hectic schedule got into the way and well it's SUNDAY!! But it's still in the week I promised, so I feel ok about it. I'm two weeks out from my first half marathon and I am super stoked to share another giveaway from Larabar. Annie over at Larabar was super sweet to send me a very generous box filled with a wide assortment of Larabars to sample.
Have you ever tried a Larabar? If not, you are missing out. Larabar's are great, healthy and at most a bar will only have 9 yes NINE ingredients, all of which are unsweetened fruits, nuts or spices in their most natural state. Not one single manufactured thing. Nothing ends in -ose, -ate, etc. To read more about the greatness of Larabar, check out Larabar FAQ Section

QOTD: Have you tried Larabar's yet? What is your favorite bar??

Cherry Pie ~ Was really tasty, a little tart, but that's how cherries are, so I would say it was true to my expectations. I was very nice and shared this bar with my friend Megan, we had a cherry themed snack. Cherry Pie Larabar and True Cherry juice from Cheribundi....yummo!
Key Lime Pie ~ yep it's so good! lime, coconut and almonds, some of my favorite things to eat. Mix them with dates and cashews and you have a scrumptious and healthy snack. Did you count the number of ingredients? 5, that's all! Amazing!!
Pineapple Upside Down Cake ~ 3 ingredients (pineapples, dates and almonds) and it's a tangy filling snack bar. It tasted better than I expected and would really buy it on my own.
Ginger Snap ~ I really enjoyed ginger snap with some coffee as a mid day snack. I love ginger snap cookies, and many other foods with ginger and this didn't disappoint.
Coconut Cream Pie and Chocolate Coconut Chew were both delicious. I requested those specifically because I love coconut and I love chocolate, so I was really looking forward to them. And they were great, but I found that my favorites were the fruity one's, go figure!!
Blueberry muffin and Apple pie are among my favorites. I have purchased those on my own at our local Publix. I requested flavors that I could not find locally and was so happy that they sent me my requests and are kind enough to let me give you the opportunity to share a mixed box with you!!
Larabars will be in my running bag from now on and are going to be part of my breakfast's on the go or a healthy snack at work. I love that these bars are great tasting, made with a minimal of REAL food items and they provide great fuel for my runs. Proof right here that I LOVE Larabar's!!
So, here's the part you all have been waiting for, how can you get your hands on a mixed case of 16 Larabar's??

What are your top 5 go to Veggies?
I can't start this post without first wishing my son Happy Birthday!! Collin is turning 14 today! It's hard to believe I have been a mommy for 14 years, it's been quite an adventure. It makes me so proud and yet very sad to see Collin growing up. Next year he will have his permit then driving will happen soon after that, then before I know it he will be grown and gone. We better enjoy this last year where he has no wheels, lol!
Collin is an awesome kid! He has such a kind heart, out going spirit and works hard (for money, lol!) Love you Collin!

What are your favorite veggies??
#1. Brussel Sprouts ~ I love them roasted, shake them up in a bag with coconut oil, almond slivers and roast them @ 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Yummo!!
#2. Green Beans ~ I love to get them fresh and steam them with sliced red pepper and slivered almonds (if you want to make it really good, cook some bacon pieces first and toss beans and peppers into the bacon and grease to steam them...OMG good!)
#3. Broccoli ~ I love it with cheese, by itself with vinegar drizzled over it, broccoli asian slaw, roasted! It's just good!
#4. Sweet Potatoes ~ Roasted with coconut oil and S & P. Peel, cut into chunks and put in a ziploc bag. Add oil, S & P and leave in fridge all day when you get home roast it @ 400 degrees for 25 min. Good stuff!
#5. Corn on the Cob ~ I love silver queen corn on the grill in the husks.
Probably the only veggie I won't eat is rutabagas, gross, nasty, can't even swallow it!
QOTD: What is your favorite vegetable and how do you cook it?? Share some ideas!

What's on your fitness bucket list??
I've been so bad about keeping up with my blog this week, I apologize. Today's blogging challenge post is brought to you while I wait for 2 teenage girls to get ready to go see a movie. I suspect it will take a long time, so here we go!
Day 14 ~ Share your fitness bucket list!!
(This is not in any particular order)
1. Disney Princess Half Marathon! Since I decided to take up running this has been my goal. I had planned to run it in 2013, but we have a cruise 3 months later and quite honestly, I need to save all the money I can for that right now. So it will have to be a 2014 goal!!
3. Race-Cation! I don't really care where or what race or when, I just think it would be totally fun to travel and run somewhere new and different.
4. Mud Run! Again, which race isn't nearly as important as just doing one. I think Warrior Dash would be good enough, Im not trying to go hard core here, just want to get muddy with some buddies. (i just rhymed!)

BOUNCING BACK FROM BACK SURGERY
Growing up I ran track, cheered and danced. After high school I lost interest and time for these activities. Six years ago, I had back problems and had to have back surgery. My Orthopaedic told me that I probably would never be very active after the surgery. As a mother to 3 kids, I knew that I needed to get active and stay healthy.
I began walking and yoga. After I was comfortable with my progress I added in a Power Lift class, and this past December I started running. I ran my first 5K on April 22, 2012 and will run my first half marathon in October 2012. I have not stopped since that back surgery. It makes me feel good to know that I control my fitness destiny and not some doctor. I really want to start CrossFit, and am looking for a way to fit it into my schedule.
STAYING MOTIVATED AND CHALLENGED

how many pairs of workout shoes do you own??
Today’s September Blogging Challenge topic is:
HOW MANY PAIRS OF WORKOUT
SHOES DO YOU OWN??
This post makes me glad that I recently cleaned out my closet. At present I own three pairs of workout shoes. My original tried and true Asics 2160 GT! They were my first pair of real running shoes, ones I went and got fitted for.
(they don't look this good anymore)
I visited a local (Mobile) running store the weekend before we started our half marathon training and got fitted for some new shoes. This trip didn't feel right from the get go. I tried on probably 25 shoes and didn't really like any of them. I finally settled on a pair of K Swiss shoes. They did feel good, but I don't love them for long runs. THey would have been perfect today, we ran 4 miles in rain, puddles and yuck! The shoes have holes in them for water to drain, they are triathlon shoes. (I don't do tri's)
They really do look this good still, I should sell them?!?
k Swiss Blade Light Run
This past Sunday I went back shoe shopping. I realized the K Swiss aren't for me, and my Asics 2160's are worn out and make my knees hurt on long runs, so now I own, ASICS 2170 GT. Momma got an upgrade and they feel great. I broke them in today on their first long run and they felt so good. I felt bad for getting them wet and dirty! Yikes!!
I do believe I am an Asics girl! They work great for me, so why change that??

What is your favorite strength move??
I wrote up this post at work and somehow lost it, so it's a day late! Oops!
Yesterday's topic of the September Blogging Challenge was What is your favorite strength move?
My favorite strength move is the walking lunge. To me it's on of the perfect workout moves, doing them with weights and if you mix in some sort of arm move, you can get a kick-ass full body workout! I now in the power lift class I attend (or use too, I can't ever seem to make it to the gym) so many people whine about having to do them. I don't know why so much! Don't get me wrong, I whine a little but it's more a lazy factor than not liking the move.

You get up at WHAT time? A guest post from Holly at Running and Baking Oh My!
The alarm is going off and I can hardly open my eyes, when I do, it’s still dark. I can’t remember why I am waking up this early. Did I set my alarm wrong? Am I dreaming? No, it’s 3:45 AM and I am waking up so I can get my run on. Yes, that’s right you heard me, I wake up at 3:45 AM so I can go run. Why would anyone in their right mind wake up that early to run? Well, there are 5 reasons why I wake up this early: Joby, Collin, Destiny, Sydnee and Gavin. That’s right, my husband and kids.

How do you log your eating and workouts?
I am participating in Fitness Cheerleaders ~ September Healthy Living / Fitness Blogger Writing Challenge. Todays post is:
Day 6 How do you log your eating and/or workouts?
Day 6 How do you log your eating and/or workouts?
I log my workouts using Daily Mile. I have a Garmin
watch and for the longest time, I logged everything on their site, using the
ANT stick. That was super great. They have great graphs, tables, etc. Then one
day, the stick fell out of the side of my laptop and was MIA for a week or so.
I synced DailyMile to my Garmin account and then started inputting all of my
runs directly in to Daily Mile. I had been maintaining both sites. Now I just
go directly to Daily Mile. Why you may ask?
I like the community aspect of Daily Mile. I like the
high fives and nice comments. I also like to follow other friends/blogger, etc.
(I’m nosey by nature, I am beyond apologizing for that personality trait. I am
also an open book by nature, hence all the logging and following on a website).
Since I started my blog, I summarize my workouts on the
blog usually 1 time a week as a recap. Dailymile also pushes my activities to
Facebook and Twitter as well!
Wow! I do share a lot, maybe too much. My runs are all
over the Web.
I do not journal or track my food. I just can’t be that
disciplined. I don’t plan meals, I don’t grocery shop with a real list and I
don’t track my consumptions. I wish I did, and I see how it could be very
beneficial, but I just can’t. For me, I like that I don’t I use to suffer from
Anorexia. I won that battle so to speak (I think you always live with it, maybe
just in other forms) so that’s why I'm a little happy that I don’t track my
food. That would be a little too controlling for me. And to me, I believe my
Anorexia was a control mechanism for myself and also something I did not let
anyone else control, nor know about!
So there you have it, if you are on Daily Mile, we
should hookup, lol! I will high five you and leave you fun comments!
Have a great day!
